The figurative language presented in all of the poems engages the reader and helps them visualize the incident being described. Sidman includes a haiku in Haiku for Carmen, pantoum in Spelling Bomb, a performance poem in Dodge Ball Kings, rhyming in Roses are Red, and repetition in What Girls Want, Ode to Slow-Hand, and Not Really.

The poems are written from different perspectives and therefore have different elements throughout. The book also includes an Author’s Note indicating the type of poem being written in Spelling Bomb, an example of a Pantoum, which is described in the note. I chose to read the apology letter and then the response, rather than reading the book from beginning to end. It has a Table of Contents to help the reader easily navigate the poems and is divided into two sections: Part 1-Apologies and Part 2-Responses. THIS IS JUST TO SAY is a beautifully written book of letters of apology and forgiveness covering a range of topics and emotions.
